Dear Love,
I have a confession to make to you. Have you read I Corinthians 13? Maybe you’ve heard it at weddings and thought that it only applied to them. Maybe you’ve read it and thought that it was a means of Me telling you how to love, and in part it is. Maybe you’ve just scratched your head and given up on trying to figure out love since its so vast and difficult to understand. But I am love and if you don’t try to understand it, you willnever understand Me. With love, I have written My word on your heart. With love, I have written your name on the palms of My hands.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. (I Corinthians 13:1-3)
You see, I have the power to speak to men and angels in words that they can understand. I can see the future and understand all the big questions that men and women have asked for centuries. I can even move mountains if I want to. I can even make the poorest of your people filled with the greatest of wealth. I can even give myself unto flames and not be touched. Crazy, you think? But it’s true. Cool, I know, the stuff that movies are made of in Hollywood. But, here’s the thing…I am nothing without love. I am nothing if I can’t love you. And I am nothing if you refuse to love Me. All that other cool stuff means absolutely nothing to Me without love. And if you didn’t already know, my other name is Love. And here’s a little bit more about Me if you didn’t already know,
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…(I Corinthians 13:4-8)
So, I just wanted to tell you what really matters to Me. I hope you can understand My heart for you a little better through My words for you. I love you and thought you just needed know.
With a never ending and never fading love,
Your God
