Poem: Real?

The rain's been pouring
For some days still yet
And time is a kind factor
Long lost love has been buried
And memories no longer sting
The things I couldn't really face
Have slowly surfaced
Washing away and into the earth

But if there be a ray in these passing days
It would be you
Standing strong and unmoving
In the corner of my heart
Shining bright with possibilities and hope
In a world that only seems to believe in gray
Where love gradually fades
Becoming this thing to be endured
Though all good things do take work
I wonder if a lesser brand has been sold

It's only once in a while
An old couple passes you by
Entirely smitten as if it were the day they'd met
Their hair silvered and skin worn by time
And though they'd been betrothed since long ago
You just know...
Their love grew more and more from the day they met
Despite trials and tribulations
You just know...
It never plateaued and faded to plain amiability
Possibly even despise

I would have never questioned these depths
Had I never known your auburn hair and blue eyes
I would have gone on believing in "gray"
Had we not created space and time away to explore
I would have never asked what could actually be real
For more than before, I'm inclined to believe
That the things we hold deepest in our hearts
