This book was recommended to me in a peaceful parenting group. I had finally realized that my daughters rigidity was due to anxiety not her just being “difficultâ€. It broke my heart since I know what living with anxiety is like and didn’t want that for her. I tried and failed to do things to help her. This book was an amazing resource to explain why what I was doing wasn’t working and what I could do instead. I started implementing the suggestions in this book during the summer and could not be happier with the change in both my daughter and I. There is a drastic decrease in stand offs and meltdowns (from both of us!). I am so grateful for the positive changes this book has brought to our home. Even my four year old has used the strategies to calm herself down....just from hearing the conversations between my older daughter and I! I feel like we can breathe again! I can’t recommend it enough!
The book has very good suggestions for both children AND adults. I wish I could have read it before I had children. Having taught elementary school for 7 years before starting our family, I thought I was well prepared but having your own is just not the same. Children are all so different. This book is helping me to relate to my grandchildren and my grown children.
I've only read the first couple of chapters to help my 5yo with some extreme anxiety over getting sick. It helped immediately, I haven't even needed to finish the book. As it is meant to be used for older children, I'm sure I'll be referring to it again in the future.
I am learning so much about myself and my children as I read this. It is written from honest, highly educated psychologists who share years of experience. The most helpful piece and every chapter is the way they explained there are many clients whom have dealt with so many similar issues. Everything is coming from first-hand knowledge and dealing with people, so their words carry a lot of weight! Incredible learning experience for us to grow away from rut of anxiety!
Having a history of anxiety and a 13 year old that has been experiencing it, this book is perfect. It's given me clear ways to speak about anxiety, and how we both can handle it. It's given me such hope that he and I will happily leave our "what if's" behind. I feel I have great strategies to guide him through this. I've recommended it to several parents. Thank you for an excellent resource. Glad to know I was doing somethings right and can correct my "talking points" to my son and myself for the future.
Wow! What an eye opener. I never realized how I fed into my child's anxiety. Now I see where he gets it.This is a really good book. Some of it was not relevant to our situation, but over all, I learned a lot(about myself!).
"Anxious Parents, Anxious Kids" is an absolute must read for parents and grandparents with a child struggling with anxiety and worry issues. An amazing book that gave me literally dozens of ideas on how to help my grandson. I thought I was doing everything right ... and I was doing most things wrong! I'd written a book about my grandson ("Grammie Rules: 49 reasons to spend time with your grandkids"), but I was doing so many things wrong to help him grow and deal with issues. The book clearly described my behavior and gave me "how to" instructions to correct it. Fabulous! And it has worked.
Absolutely eye-opening book! Has many ideas and techniques I had not heard of or thought of. I listened to this on MP3 audio book and narrator was excellent.
