About the Author

Urban Meyer is the head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. In 2014, he led the Buckeyes to their first Big Ten Conference title under his tenure as well as the program's eighth national championship. This is one of the best leadership books I've read. Regardless of your interest in football or Urban Meyer or Ohio State, the book and Urban Meyer's leadership style is relateable to everyone, no matter your position, even if you think you lead no one. The takeaways are numerous. I've given away a copy or two and also recommended it to many more.

BK and Tk bring all the elements that they have created in their organization to this book. Incrible things that I can bring to my students and athletes. E+R=O, No BCD and Discpline over Default are all elements I use in everyday life now.

One of my favorite quotes from Above the Line is, "Average leaders have quotes. Good leaders have a plan. Exceptional leaders have a system."Coach Urban Meyer details his leadership system that has worked at every coaching stop along the way to great success. Another aspect I liked about this book was Meyer's willingness to talk about his personal failings while at Florida and the role of faith in his life. If you are looking for another book that details leadership and motivation strategies from Meyer and many other legends of coaching, Championship Performance Coaching is one to check out.

Incredible leadership nuggets in this book. I especially like BED (no Blame, Excuses, Denial) and E+R=O (Event +Response=Outcome). I'll use these!

About the Author

Patricia Leavy, PhD, is an independent sociologist and former Chair of Sociology and Criminology and Founding Director of Gender Studies at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. She is the author, coauthor, or editor of over 25 books, and the creator and editor of seven book series. Known for her commitment to public scholarship, she is frequently contacted by the U.S. national news media and has regular blogs for The Huffington Post,The Creativity Post, and We Are the Real Deal. She is also co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the journal Art/Research International. Dr. Leavy has received numerous awards for her work in the field of research methods, including the Distinguished Service Outside the Profession Award from the National Art Education Association, the New England Sociologist of the Year Award from the New England Sociological Association, the Special Achievement Award from the American Creativity Association, the Egon Guba Memorial Keynote Lecture Award from the American Educational Research Association Qualitative Special Interest Group, and the Special Career Award from the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry. Patricia Leavy does it again! This is truly a tome of the finest kind. Subtle when it needs to be. Obvious when it devours and reveals esoteric problems in plain language. An essential contribution to qualitative methods and the foundations of arts-based research. Wherever we go from here in the field will have to use this comprehensive and comprehensible collection as its launching point. Congratulations Patricia!

The ultimate go-to reference or teaching text for anyone interested in the art-research connection. Diverse topics and writing styles keep it interesting (no easy task at 738 pages). I love the inclusion of disciplines often ignored such as neuroscience, chemistry, and business. Leavy’s introductory and concluding chapters are terrific. They offer an overview of the field and map a way forward. Interested readers in the arts, education, social services, and other fields should pick it up for personal use.

A masterpiece. Bravo! I’ve never read such an ambitious or successful handbook. I love the poetry, scripts, visual artworks, comics, and other art sprinkled throughout the prose. It’s beautiful but also practical for those needing guidance. Every artist, researcher, and student needs this handbook.
