My daughter LOVES this book. Great oictures and great information.

Little Guy loves visiting the zoo, farms, pet stores and more. DK Canada has a great selection of books in their All Creatures Great and Small Boutique that seemed like it would cover a wide variety of animals. And it did!The cover was colourful with a mixture of real and drawn picture of various animals. It invited opening up to see what was inside. The boarding used for the covers was slightly padded, making it nicer for holding. The contents are divided between four categories: All About Animals, Amazing Animals, Animal Antics and More Very Important Animals. Now, while Gramma is a front to back reader, Little Guy is not. There is an attached bookmark to keep your place if you do manage to read front to back!The first few passes through, he just picked pages at random, looking at pictures and stopping at what caught his eye. Subsequent readings slowed down. We would finish looking at each double paged entry. He happily pointed out those he recognized. The entries are a mixture of actual photos and drawings. The majority are photos, which Gramma preferred. The drawing are well done though and not 'cartoonish'. Little Guy loves 'interesting things.' (Yes he actually calls it that) It can be something he finds outside or something he learns. There are many interesting things to be learned in the entries of this book. Gramma learned too - did you know that Dalmatian puppies are born white and only acquire their spots as they grow? And a few new names for groups of animals....a flamboyance of flamingos, a prickle of porcupines.The publisher recommends for ages 4-8. Best suited for the younger end of that I think. Thumbs up from both Little Guy and Gramma. Gramma's only dither is the title. I'm not sure about the VIP, but have no alternatives suggestions. Still, it was what was inside that counted.

I love Rob Bell's perspective and his incredible communication skills. I'm grateful that he wrote a teen version of Love Wins ... my teens are enjoying it and it's making for some great conversations.

this book changed my life. a whole new way to look at the bible, heaven and hell. Love is the most important thing of all!

I thoroughly enjoyed LOVE WINS: FOR TEENS because it was a quick read and really speaks simply, openly, and honestly to young men and women, still new on their journies into adulthood. A couple of youth at the church I serve are borrowing it now!

When I read Love Wins, it changed my life. Finally someone who understood the God of love as I do! So I was thrilled when I found the teen version. I gave it to my 14 year old daughter after she attended a youth group that preached the "turn or burn" message of salvation and she was confused and searching. She read it in one day and we had an awesome conversation about it. I highly recommend it for any searching teen...or parent!

I'll admit that I'm always up for a book like this when other Christians wag their tongues and shake their fingers at it. That was my initial reason for buying this one, a well known Christian blogger said "Love Wins for Teens? No thanks". I knew I just HAD to get my hands on it.Rob didn't pull any punches in this book for teens. He brought out all the tough questions many people ask about Christianity and the God that so many Christians describe. He covers the stark reality of free will, heaven, hell and the power God has given us to live in heaven on earth or hell on earth. While there may be some specific beliefs about the heaven or hell in the afterlife, there is a reality right here with us now that we need to stop ignoring. Rob describes the consequences of destructive living and offers the hope of restoration to God through Christ. He presents the hard truth about just how much freedom we have while making us painfully aware of what kinds of fruit our 'free will' can bring into our lives when we misuse it. For those who live in fear of the message Rob conveys to teens in this book: your fear is exactly why your teen needs to read this. Rob gives plenty of reasons to explore faith in God and inspires us to look at the Christian life with renewed vigor. I'm not one to favor youth groups, but if my teens were a part of one it would be one where the youth pastor reads this book and takes a long hard look at what kind of God they're introducing teenagers to.For those who criticize this book without reading it, you just make yourself look ridiculous to those of us who have read it. If I had the funds, I'd buy cases of this book and give it to every teen I know.

The original book is so good, as it answers all the hard questions we ask about God. Really helpful.

Great read! Am giving this to each teen in my youth group. Rob Bell's theology may not match the official theology of your congregation, but this book gets teens thinking and talking about faith. Most churches are losing their youth because the youth feel no connection to the faith taught and lived in the congregation. This book will do more to nurture the faith of your teens than all the sermons we give. It frankly asks questions teens have and Rob gives his answers - Even some "I don't know"s.

Tony Hawks journey around Ireland is something you need to read to understand. Filled with pure, good human humor and hospitality through and through, definitely a worth while read.My biggest complaint would have to be the author's name (which he can't really control, can he?). It's almost impossible to look him up thanks to that pro skater.Also, in the center of the book are included a few pictures of his journey and people he met- however, Tony neglects to include a PICTURE OF THE FRIDGE SURFING. He explicity mentions taking it, and it's a shame we couldn't see it. Ah well.

Don't read this book unless you can stand to laugh - a lot. This is like Douglas Adams having a conversation with Tom Robbins as recorded by Bill Bryson and read by Stephan Frye. Tony Hawks is the next great voice in comedic travel journalism - amoung the other three. Read everything he has written and will write and your life will be better for it. He visits a king, attends sheep trails, tries out at a bachelor competition, goes surfing in the North Sea, falls off a wall kissing a girl and gets laid in a dog house - along with traveling the sights and back towns of the emerald isle where-in he becomes a local hero and an international legend. Plus he wins a cracking good bet in the end.

In response to a wager declared during drunkenness, Brit Tony Hawks accepts the challenge of traveling around Ireland while packing a compact refrigerator. And a book is born. In 1997, he spends one month, fridge in tow, hitching rides around the country and staying in various establishments including: B&Bs, a youth hostel, and the homes of newly acquired acquaintances. Helped by PR from a popular radio station, he and his ice box complete the quest, and in the process, he gains adequate fodder to produce this entertaining book. Although I was skeptical of the story, the fact that I laughed out loud in several places sealed the deal for me. Hawks' philosophy seems best summarized as follows: (p 9) "The trick is to be masters of our own destiny in so far as we have control and take the rest on the chin with a wry smile" and (p 46) "Heavy lifting is good for the soul but bad for the back, and tends to interfere with lolling about." Some of the funnier moments include random musings on subjects like this one about man's best friend, (p 35) "Dogs pride themselves on getting muddy and to be less muddy than your owner must be shameful" and another about a hostelmate, (p 148) "I'm against the death penalty. I believe that it is a mistake to show that killing people is wrong, by killing people. However, I'm not against the random killing of people who snore." He is just as funny when contending such things as, (p 40) "Just like an orchestra will have a Lead Violinist, most pubs will have a Lead Drunk," and then supporting the statement regularly. This should come as no surprise considering the fact he spends most of his overnight stays bevvying (beers) at local pubs. In summary, in spite of some skepticism, I found Round Ireland with a fridge to be worthwhile light reading. Also good: Me Talk Pretty Some Day by David Sedaris, I'll Mature When I'm Dead by Dave Barry, and Dubliners by James Joyce.

The author, a young comedian with wry wit, deprecating humor, and sparkling human insights, invites the reader along on his Quixotic, hitch-hiking tour of Ireland's perimeter with dorm-room fridge in tow - all in hopes of winning a tavern bet . The people he meets and who befriend him define colorful, human and inviting. Move over Frommer's and Fodor's - "Round Ireland with a Fridge" is a must-read for travelers to Ireland or anyone looking for an abundance of quality laughsRound Ireland with a Fridge.While devouring this must-read, jewel of a book, several times I reassured myself there was doubtless something better to do with my time. And read on I did to the last page, laughing once or twice a page, several times out loud. A must read for any Irishman, emerald isle traveler, Dave Barry fan - or anyone who needs a literate, uber-clever break from the woes of daily life.

I really enjoyed this book. Hawks' sense of humor is exactly what I expect of someone from Great Britain: dry and self depricating. It was a really quick read for me because I live off of this humor. I'm giving it 3 stars because this kind of humor isn't for everyone, so if you haven't read the book, I would suggest having an open mind and if you don't find it funny then still read the book. There is something for everyone to learn while reading this book.

This is a very enjoyable tale! I was a little disappointed when I found out that the "fridge" was a little cube model, not a full sized Amana, but everything else is a lot of fun. To win a ridiculous bet, Tony decides to hitchhike around Ireland with a fridge in tow. A local radio station gets wind of his scheme, and follows his itinerary around the country. He ends up having some fun adventures along the way, including lunch with some Benedictine nuns, and everybody gets into the spirit, or the "craic", of his journey. It's a fun read, with some delightful descriptions of the Irish countryside mixed in with a lot of good humor!

I loved this book!!! I love how eccentric the author is and how funny the book is. This book is the funniest book I have ever read. My poor family had to listen to me tell about it as I was reading it. Highly recommended!!!

Very fun reading. Sort of the same thing, the same funny or sweet little stories, over and over though, so I lost interest a little by the time I was 80% through it. Still totally worth buying, a different kind of story.

I admit to having a passion for the martial arts and self-defense systems both modern and those taught in the past. I ordered this book way back in December of 2012 and I guess because it was published in the United Kingdom (in 2011) it took more than four months to finally get this book delivered to me. This little hardcover text supposedly teaches the self-defense system (Bartitsu) used by the great fiction detective Sherlock Holmes. Since I am a fan of both the martial arts and Sherlock Holmes I just had to order a copy of this little book. This volume is printed on slick paper and it is printed beautifully. There are eight short chapters in this volume. The include the following:The introduction explains the development of Bartitsu and admits that most of the techniques came originally from Japanese Jujitsu, combined with the author's own experience in other systems such as boxing, stick fighting, etc. Chapter one shows how to deal with undesirables. Chapter two explains how to escape when attacked from the rear. Chapter three deals with escapes when you are grabbed. Chapter four covers defense against an unarmed opponent. Chapter five explains the use of the stout stick. Chapter six covers the use of the short stick or umbrella. Chapter seven explains how to throw and hold a man on the ground and the last chapter shows self-defense from a bicycle. Believe it or not, many of the techniques shown are valid self-defense techniques; however, many are also dated and are not techniques I would teach my students. Nevertheless, I liked this book because it shows the techniques and methods that were taught in the past in both England and the United States.In conclusion, if you are interested in self-defense from a historical perspective, and you are also a fan of Sherlock Holmes, you may want to check out this book.Rating: 4 Stars. This book is my first taste of bartitsu, and i like it a lot. This book has many techniques, mostly ju jitsu throws, holds, and escapes. There are many techniques for cane defense as well as an odd section on bicycle defense. As a martial artist there are a few moves in this book that could be readily adapted to self defense.

A kind of guidebook to manners, Galateo is a delightful read. As a previous reviewer suggested, dip into it anywhere--it needn't be read in sequential order. It is not a novel, though it reads with the ease of one. Rusnak is a smooth and fluent translator. And his introduction is written with a scholar's care, and helpfully provides Renaissance context to Galateo's savory advices. The price is right, too, for a university press book presented in such a fine format.

Historically speaking it is a great read. Guess the felling when you touch the first ever manual on polite behaviour and good manners. I truly recommed it to all those in need of a pigmallion touch in their lives.

The work provides an interesting perspective into the mind of an Italinan Renaissance nobleman reguarding everyday behavior. It also demonstrates how that daily behavior differs from today's accepted behaviors. The concept of politeness changes over time.

We would all do well to heed the advice in Galateo --"Every action of ours, instead, must suggest reverence and respect toward the company we keep," as we make our way through the 21st century. This delicious little book resonates with good sense, attention to the subtleties of social life, and kindliness of expression. M. F. Rusnak's translation enhances Giovanni Della Casa's voice without intrusiveness while retaining the delightful aspects of the work. It is a pleasure to read this book, which transcends time and place. Don't miss the impressive scholarship of M. F. Rusnak's introduction.

It reads like a curmudgeon going on and on about other people's annoying habits. That's more or less what it is, in fact. Curmudgeonly or not though, many of the observations seem as relevant today as they were when it was written. It's too short and disorganized to serve as a definitive guide to manners, but it's a fun read.

I've just completed my second reading of M. F. Rusnak's excellent translation of Galateo, and each time I've enjoyed the subtleties of Giovanni Della Casa's "rules" for behaving politely under social conditions rife with all kinds of subterfuge harmless and otherwise. Giovanni's repeated call for self restraint and introspection in pursuit of good conduct is shadowed by warning against too strict conformity, proof that we are witnessing a persona in conflict beneath a placid stream of good-will advice. Della Casa is shrewd indeed, for while hypocrisy in matters of etiquette is merely a social nuisance, it has serious implications within the context of psychology. The satirical mirror in which we see ourselves makes us laugh and wince at the same time. This is a challenging and instructive book on several levels of concern, including the historical, and I look forward to reading it again.

This book is really timeless. Though written in Renaissance Italy, in Rusnak's translation it's just as fresh and pertinent to daily living as an advice column in a magazine or on the Web. The real title should be "How to Avoid Making a Fool of Yourself in Society," with plenty of examples. It has the wisdom and frankness of Dear Abby with the punch of a talk-radio host. Evidently people haven't changed much in 500 years. Read and enjoy.One word of advice: there's not a lot of structure. Don't feel that you need to read it from beginning to end. Begin anywhere: the book is a great sendup of social boors, bores, and blunderers.

The product itself is amazing. Highly recommend this book if you want to learn SOlidworks, and also if you want to gain a better understand of how to use it and for what. On the other hand, this seller is no good, and this is the 3rd time we've made a purchase from this seller in my family and each time there seems to be an issue with the book by the time it reaches my house - my book currently has a 2 inch long cut running down the spine that goes 1.5 inches into the book as well (which is affecting about 60 pages and the overall integrity of the book). If you can, I'd avoid this seller :(

The author(s) appear to be non-native English speakers, and their word usage, punctuation, and grammar are atrocious. It appears that the book was not professionally edited, and the errors are myriad - making the book extremely difficult to read.The author's style is terse and repetitive. Every function is described exactly the same way, English mistakes and all. It's as if a template was written first, and then the details for each function inserted. Reading the book is very tedious.From a content perspective, I would categorize the book as a reference, not a beginner's guide. How to use each function is well covered, but there is very little on why. As a 2D CAD person trying to learn solid modeling the book will help, but only just barely. I cannot recommend the book to others.

I needed a book to help me to do an urgent project without any previous knowledge about Solidworks. This is an ultimative book to do such a thing, and for a great price too. Kindle version is very easy to handle. Lot of illustrations and step by step guides. This book just made my day.
