70-200mm lens at 200mm, ISO 125, 1/3 sec. at f/10I would describe myself as a budding enthusiast. I've had a Canon Rebel T1i for about four years, but have never really gotten beyond full auto, and sometimes struggled even with that, particularly at night. I was looking for a book to explain three basic things:1. Camera bodies (dSLRs vs. mirrorless Micro Four Thirds, crop vs. full frame, etc.)2. Lenses (focal length, zoom power, and aperture, plus the impact of crop factor)3. Technical basics (aperture, ISO, and shutter speed; what PPI and DPI really mean in practical terms; the difference between JPEG and Raw; what Landscape and Portrait and other preset modes on your camera are actually doing).All of these questions were basically answered in the first few chapters and ~100 pages of the book, and in a pretty easy read. After reading those first few chapters, I found myself able to fairly competently browse photography website and magazines without being completely lost. I can tell you what f/2.8 is (the aperture), what 1/500 sec. refers to (shutter speed), and what a photographer means by ISO 100 and 70-200mm at 200mm.Much of the middle of the book (chapters 4-7) deal with the basics of photography and composition, and is probably not any better or worse than other entry level books on photography. The remainder of the book deals with fairly basic (for dummies) material on downloading and printing pictures (chapters 8 and 9), and stuff like creating desktop wallpaper and slide shows (chapter 10).Overall, I think the book is a pretty good value for $15. Personally, I've shied away from the "For Dummies" line in the past, as I've found that there are better books for many of the subjects that I have been interested in. But if you're like me and are at a level where you're even considering a "For Dummies" book -- and if you're reading this review, I suspect you are -- then this book should do the trick, and my guess is that Digital Photography For Dummies is probably exactly the book you are looking for.

Great book. Simple easy to read and understand. I bought a canon rebel last year. I have kept it on auto since day one because I was intimidated by my first dslr camera.Its time to move forward and see what I can learn!!!

Most of the first half of the book deals with selection of a digital point-and-shoot or DSLR, an area that I haven't seen addressed elsewhere other than in comparison tests in popular magazines. The treatment in the book is easily accessible by beginners, unlike much of the meat of the comparison articles which are performance parameter comparisons.The second half of the book is a tutorial on effective use of a digital point-and-shoot or DSLR right out of the box. I bought this book as a gift for a very intelligent fellow who has had some difficulty in effective use of a great DSLR, and this part of the book could have been written for him and his family. The book ends with a chapter that is action-packed with excellent tips on using the camera, getting the pictures out of it, sending them by e-mail or putting them on a blog or whatever, and printing them through web services, at CVS or whatever, or at home. Thus the all-important step of how to get great prints from a great camera is the ending of the book.For those who shoot for Facebook or other blogs or to display their cameras in e-mail or on smartphones, or even those who simply use the great miniature cameras that come with some newer smartphones, this book is an excellent tutorial and reference for getting pictures that display well on computers, tablets, and smartphones. Except for the number of pixels (you need lots more pixels for sharp prints), it's the same art and science.

This book provides a great introduction to the basic techniques of serious digital photography. This was wonderful for me as I had literally NO idea of how to operate a digital camera correctly (I was the stand-point-shoot kind of guy) and I'm training to become an Archaeologist, so I really need to know my way around Photography (also, I love animals -especially bugs- and spend lots of time chasing them down and taking pics of them). This book got me from not knowing why even my stills got blurred (I have shaky hands) to actually getting almost exactly the pictures I want every time. I say "almost" because my point-and-shoot camera is only one step above "basic", but I'm sure as soon as I get my hands on a nice SLR I'll be able to nail it because of this book.The computer chapters take you through the very basics of viewing, downloading, printing, making minor edits to your pictures and even creating screensavers on common software and platforms (for example, Windows Live Photo Gallery), which is great, because the author doesn't assume you have gargantuan pro (or semi-pro) software for photo edition. The only thing lacking, in my oppinion, is too few info on lenses (that would've made it perfect), but then again, the book is aimed for laymen, which don't necessarily own SLRs (I don't) and probably won't need to much info on lenses. Still, make no mistake: you'll have the fundamental data on lenses here and learn what (and where) to look for when you decide to take the SLR step and buy lenses.I must stress, though, that this is aimed for the very beginners. If you already know about illumination, manipulating ISO, shutter speeds, balancing colors, composing images, digitally retouching pics and stuff, you may find it too basic. Again, if you know nothing about these subjects, this book is a great place to start. If you don't even have a camera but are considering getting one, this is for you: you'll feel quite satisfied when you get the most juice from your camera no matter how simple it is.

Nice artwork, but the grid has Sundays on the far right-hand side rather than on the left. Makes the calendar VERY hard to follow if you're not paying close attention. Also, they don't include many American holidays and observances like Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day...even Halloween is not noted! Pretty, but pretty useless. I'm shopping for a replacement.

His thesis is that whatever is going on in God is like dancing, a flowing of life. Knowledge of God is participatory; it is knowing from within, from participating in the dance. Sin is stopping the flow of the dance. Moreover, he says, “What physicists and contemplatives alike are confirming is that the foundational nature of reality is relational; everything is in relationship with everything else” (page 69). Being a psychiatrist, I would add that behavioral science and neuroscience are confirming the same. The book contains important take home messages. Among my favorites are the following: Messages about God: “Whatever is going on in God is a flow, a radical relatedness, a perfect communion between Three [Father, Son and Holy Spirit for a Christian]—a circle dance of Love. And God is not just a dancer; God is the dance itself” (page 27). “… God … is actually inter-being …” (page 82). God loves you, not because you are good, but because God is good (page 110). “The cross is the standing icon and image of God, showing us that … God is in the suffering with us” (page 132). “Jesus became incarnate to reveal the image of the invisible God” (page 174). Messages about the universe and us: “Our starting place was always original goodness, not original sin” (page 32). “Personhood is not a static notion, but an entirely dynamic and relational one … our original identity in God. All human personhood implies a process of coming to be in love! Sin is every refusal to move in the direction of our deepest identity as love” (page 77). “…this ‘whole creation itself … [is being] brought into the same glorious freedom as the children of God’ and is ‘groaning in one great act of giving birth’” (page 114). “Humans change in the process of love-mirroring, and not by paying any price or debt” (page 132). “Creation just keeps unfolding …” (page 147). The book ends with a quote from Catherine of LaCugna: “The very nature of God, therefore, is to seek out the deepest possible communion and friendship with every last creature on this earth” (page 194). An appendix describes seven practices for experiencing the Trinity. I highly recommend this book for people of all faiths who seek inspiration for living in our current time of increasing interconnectedness.

For most of my life I was raised in faith traditions that were mostly about externals: actions and words ...not about a transformational inner life. Lots of memorizing "The Word", and practicing whatever tenets of a particular church might consider acceptable and as identifiable as a fraternal club handshake. Then when I was faced with what seemed like unbearable challenges in my own life, it became vital to my sanity and survival to "own" my faith instead of simply competing for first place among my peers for being the holiest appearing of them all. It wasn't THAT dramatic, but I desperately needed to re-assess what I actual did believe, and rid myself of the toxic burdon of man made dogmas that had poisoned my heart. Among the changes, was the concept and understanding of my/our placement in Christ ... as part of the Divine Dance that is the well addressed topic of this book. Throughout scripture there are such confirmations as our being accepted in The Beloved, Christ being the firstborn among many brothers and sisters .... and many, many more. All of them pointing to the reality that our acceptance and eternal love in the heart of our Father has nothing to do with how good or bad we are, how many religious "buzz phrases" we have memorized .... but simply because of Who HE is .. and his provision for our placement as sons and daughters in and through Christ.I looked very much forward to the release of this book, and in every way so far I am loving it. Because of the depth of the thoughts that are written, I am grateful that the chapters are short ... enabling me to read a short portion of the book each night (when I do a lot of my reading) ... and then "tink on these things" .. and assimilate them into my being. I am a careful and slow reader (Lectio?) and also when there is a book that has a message well worth reading and whose message I seek to be a catalyst for transformation in my own life, I read it several times ... as I will this one.In my opinion this isn't a book of "fluff", but one that has substantial depth and insight. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about his/her faith journey. I believe it will truly "remove the scales from one's eyes" and totally change the way our life can and should be iived.Will Byrd, osb

I enjoy the perspective that Richard Rohr brings to many topics and his study of the Trinity as flow is very helpful. It's a great book if you want to break out of your western thought processes and approach a more ancient view of the Trinity. Even though Rohr is a Catholic friar, I feel like he draws more upon the Eastern Orthodox point of view of the Trinity which emphasizes the threeness of God more than than the Oneness. This is an invitation to mystery and the 7 exercises in the appendix are wonderful ways to open yourself to God more devotionally. I believe I will come back to this book a lot in the coming days as a reference to conversations on the Trinity.

This book is either ending up in the trash or it is going to change your life. For me it is the later. Fr. Rohr presents us with a paradigm shift - a change in the way we think about God, about the Trinity and the way we look at the world. He wants us to look at God, not as an object, a thing, but as the "space between things." God is everything and everyone, and we should look at the Trinity as participants is a circle dance where there is no leader, no head, but all participants are fully engaged and fully equal. And the good news is that God has made us to join them in this divine dance - a dance of love. Then Fr. Rohr challenges us to look at the world, not as a pyramid as we usually do, but as a circle with everyone is equal and participating in the circle. If we can do that then we can change the world.

Don't expect to learn how to write RTL hardware descriptions from this book. Do expect to have a complete guide to using the Xilinx ISE development environment and several different Xilinx FPGA based boards. All firmware that you build and load into hardware is already written. The book is simply a guide to compiling and loading this firmware into FPGA devices. As such it is complete and accurate. Easy to read and understand.

This book has some good information about some Xilinx FPGAs, but it needs some serious editing. I have found several typos, the author is apparently confused assumptions about the reader so elementary terms he defines while other more advanced terms are assumed.There is some good information, it is just not well organized.I'd like the author to produce a revision with the help of a good editor and someone who the author considers the ideal reader to help better organize the information. I'd be glad to help.

Great book, though it doesnt cover newer fpga architectures like the Zynq or Vivado it does a great job of explaining how to get started and has some fun projects.Cons: hasn't been proofread completely and some of the concepts arent connected well. You may have to supplement with youtube to get the most out of it.

This book uses multiple boards for illustration, and does not go beyond the examples which come with the boards. I promptly return the book. If you want to learn Verilog, I would recommend "Advanced Chip Design, Practical Examples in Verilog" instead. Or even free articles like this one: [...]. For FPGA boards, this Xilinx board comes with necessary (English) docs: XC6SLX9 Starter Board,Xilinx Spartan 6 FPGA (find it on flea bay).

This book has a very straightforward goal, and it meets that goal well. "Make: FPGAs" does not attempt to turn you into an expert in using software and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to create special-function hardware. Instead, it presents "eight interesting FPGA projects that will help you develop some of the skills you will need to really begin exploring this exciting world of turning software into hardware through FPGA technology." David Romano, the author, shows several consumer-affordable ($29.95 to $200) FPGA development boards and then explains the design flow necessary to work with them effectively. The projects range from a simple frequency divider, to a Bitcoin miner, and a software-defined radio (SDR). The software for the projects, meanwhile, can be downloaded from GitHub. The book takes a clear, step-by-step approach to each project and offers many illustrations, screenshots and photographs.(My thanks to O'Reilly Media for providing a review copy.)

I didn't buy this book through Amazon, but if I had, I would be returning it for a refund.The first third of this book (84 pages) make perect sense, is helpful, and is easy to follow.Starting with page 85, and almost through the end of the book there is almost nothing being said that relates to anything said before, or is anything other than disjointed information that might have been pulled from some datasheet or tutorial somewhere.It's almost as if the author ran out of time to write pages 85 and beyond, and merely published his "cliff notes" for those parts. I really don't get it.You can't simply switch from a "hands on" teach ing style (pages 1-84), and then just forget that mid-book (pages 85-182 or so) and start presenting raw VHDL programming code for no reason, and without any introduction or explanation.Some parts of the book beyond page 183 are probaby usable on their own, but these are mostly regurgitating other people's FPGA projects, which you can find on their websites.I recommend you try another FPGA book, unless you can afford to pay for a 1/3-usable one.

This is a joke. This is clearly a scam product, and all of the positive reviews are clearly shills perpetrating this debacle. At least one of the positive reviews is a verbatim exerpt of the book. It's the one describing that there are many different variations of the sport of hockey, roller hockey, etc. Read it to get an idea of how big of a sham this crap is. DO NOT BUY.

Not much valuable info

Hockey Made Easy is a nice, thorough and informative book that can benefit hockey players of any age level although I think this book would be best suited toward players of a younger age group. It's a relatively short read which may be appealing for those in a younger age group but don't be fooled by it's medium-sized length - it's actually packed with a ton of information. I found that the part of the book that discussed goal-setting was the best part. Not only does it apply to hockey players but it can benefit those who play any sport or who don't play any sport at all. It's definitely worth a read!

I'm the new coach for my son's hockey team and I learned a lot from reading this book, the tips within it was exactly what I was searching for. I found the book well written and very useful. I also like the author's way of explaining things so everyone can understand. Great job!

I was asked to read this book and see if it was suitable for teen hockey players and I think it is a good book even for younger players. It discusses the equipment needed, exercises and workouts that work well to develop muscles a hockey player needs to have in top shape and stretches that keep everything limber in order to avoid injury during practice or a game. It also goes into good nutrition for a hockey player. I was afraid the chapter on mental techniques and toughness training may be a bit much for an adolescent, but it had great suggestions that will help the members of the team better players.Every chapter had valuable information for the hockey player. The chapter on equipment was great going into every piece of equipment and I especially appreciated the part about fitting skates, which is very important. I found the proper stretching techniques done before a game to be very informative having over 16 warm ups and even more that gets the entire body from top to bottom ready for a game and able to withstand the pressure of playing. The chapter on being a better player will benefit anyone that plays the game. It goes all the way from improving skills, to strength, tips on defense and how to analyze plays properly. Defensive and offensive tips are especially helpful. The top 5 hockey workouts include endurance, speed, skating, goalie and stickhandling and there are exercises for each one. The diet and nutrition section discusses carbs, proteins, fats and hydration. Some great suggestions for mental preparation are developing self-confidence, focus, composure, playing loose and calming anxiety. It also gives you suggestion for a pre-game ritual. The whole book is something any hockey player should read.

I learned a lot from this book about hockey, primarily about training drills. The review of useful equipment is fundamental and sound. I also liked the information on mental preparation.

Hockey is a fun and a competitive sport that I enjoy playing. There are several variants of hockey including roller hockey, field hockey and ice hockey which is the popular variant. Hockey aside from been a fun sport often provides many health and personal development benefits to its players. It’s great for improving coordination, agility, flexibility, physical strength and reflexes. The best part of the book is that it contains proven steps and strategies on how to become a better hockey player; who doesn’t want that? I have discovered how to select the best gear and equipment for optimal performance as well as how to properly stretch and warm up before a practice. Everything I needed to learn about hockey, I did find in this book which is also very simple and easy to understand. I look forward to going in the field and becoming a great player. I picked up this book not knowing any thing about street art going by just shear amount of pictures and size, I am quite happy I did the book contains a brief bio of the artist whose works have been included in chronological order from his first experiments with this form of art from screen prints, stickers to his favorite designing skate boards. In between it also show cases his work in other areas like posters, wall art and even in some body words graffiti. Over are all an excellent introduction not only to the artist but to this easy to follow modern art that every one can relate, enjoy.

When I think back to when I first read a thumbnail sketch of the first instalment of this tale, I remember thinking "here comes another cleasha rom-com. Fun read. I continued to read hoping that somehow he would find a way to have everyone understand him. Many threads seems to be at play, looking forward to see what happens.

I've watched the anime years ago and the plot is sooo cliché i never had any high hopes for it, then later this year i came across these light novels and decided to give it a try.. now I've been hooked! This book gave me feels man! That scene with wiene! Any body who read this would know what I'm talking about, but dang! Got me all teary eyed and goosebumps all over! Its that good!

A great finish to the story arc. Didn't want it to end.

I wish bell had leveled up again, but he stays level 3 by the end. I bet Asterios will eventually save bell and his party in the deep levels.

This was well worth the wait, i loved the twists, the turns, the schemes,and the unexected miracles that throw everything upside down.
