Starkly beautiful, moving volume of poetry. I bought this book after reading a review in the New York Times, and I am delighted to have "discovered" this legendary poet. A great gift for anyone who writes or reads poetry, but make sure to keep one for yourself.

I read it straight through, which I never could do with poetry. There is real attitude as well as humility. So glad she is getting the attention she deserves now.

Good, but not great. Could have used better editing. Still, some excellent poems.

Like best book ever!!!!

Imagine Bukowski polished and mannerly with much of the anger and grit removed; tilted toward the academic. Is it an improvement? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. When Myles attempts strong emotion, it often falls flat and comes across as less than authentic. She thinks too much, feels too little, objectifies the subject, and makes it clinical; problems of an academic poet. Regardless, these are very good poems, highly recommended.

A massive collection that gathers this poet's important work over her entire career. Her work identifies strongly with New York City, and evolves as the city does and she matures. This book is a fantastic introduction to this cult icon.

This coloring book is so cool; i like how the outside of the coloring book was madethe beautiful pictures on the inside,the wirds where awesome on each page i got a good laugh on each page that they are the cutest adult sassy coloring book i would recommend this book over and over again.

These are a lot of fun to color, I absolutely love the black background and wish more coloring book artists would do this. It saves me a lot of ink. I colored mine with Copic markers and the bleedthrough isn't terrible although this is standard fairly thin coloring book paper. Definitely put paper in between what you are working on and the next page or cut it out with an exacto.My one complaint would be some of the details of the illustration accidentally got colored in black instead of being left white when they were filling in the background. So you will have a random flower petal that goes missing, for example. Other than that the price I see good and I think it was a good purchase.

I love this book, just one thing is that i think some of the animals and pics look kinda juvenile but other than that its great :)

This coloring book is the best!! It beats all of the other boring coloring books that I've used before. There's something about coloring in swear words that instantly makes me feel better. I've been dealing with a lot of anger lately and this is one of the best remedies that I've found so far. The black pages are great because when I mess up, it's not even noticeable. I absolutely love this coloring book. I am a technical support representative and I am able to color this while waiting for certain things to happen while on the phone with customers. It let's out my frustration in a positive manner as opposed to sounding frustrated. I adore that it is the dark version of coloring books. The blacked out pages certainly make for an easier, prettier experience with these sheets. I do wish they were perforated. However, for the price there is absolutely no complaints from me. I will say I would be more than willing to pay just a little bit more for perforation.

Absolutely LOVE the pages to color and the fact that you can get the previous book to color as well, you just have to print the pages out yourself- which is fine by me! The reason I marked as 4 stars instead of 5 is that these coloring pages do not have any perforations on them in order to take the pages out easily. Which in turn makes coloring one page at a time much easier! Truly wish they were perforated versus the possibility of trying to take the page out and having it rip 😢

I got this for my sister, who happens to have a potty mouth like I do. She does these adult coloring books to handle her anxiety. This book is hilarious and has great designs to color. The black background is different and I love it. I got her pastel pencils to use which will make the pictures super vibrant and stand out amazing against the black background. Great quality book and paper. She will absolutely love this.

Pretty good, only problem I'm having is the blank spots, repeated words, and all the cats.On almost every page I've had to use a black markers to fill in white spots that were missed or spots that make zero sense to the pattern on the page. Several of the words are repeated throughout the book. And for some reason there's an abundance of cats. Overall it was okay for the price.

The impulse-buy aisles and dollar-store bins are full of insta-books by famous internet people. Remember "Stuff White People Like"? Remember that guy? He wrote a book! The record on this type of multi-media experience is... spotty.But I adored this book, probably because my brain has, like the authors' brains, been rotted out by the mid-90s comedy of "Mr. Show," "The Simpsons," and "MST3K." On the same page, you're going to get a table-pounding rant about the Democratic Party's refusal to challenge post-Cold War foreign policy orthodoxy, and a sidebar joke about Italian people. ("ITALY. Population: 60 million legitimate businessmen.")The banter you love from the show translates very well to print; the mixed-media stuff, like a the gruesome illustrated gallery of "libs" and "cons," elevates jokes that wouldn't have worked on the show. There are in-jokes and deep cuts and weird references that might throw the reader who's leafing through it -- I got (I think?) most of the references and I had great fun de-tangling them.The main question is: If we end up in a "Canticle for Liebowitz" situation, and a post-apocalyptic society has to rebuild from one text, would this book save civilization? I think the answer is yes, though our mutated descendants are going to know more about the "Matrix" sequels than they need to.

The Chapo crew and their woke corporate ghostwriters try their hand at the technique (pg 136-137) with results that would flood poor Joyce's Irish eyes with tears of horror. Not the horror of the uncanny, of some abrupt rift in one's hopeful engagement in the world, perhaps more like being trapped in a hurricane of fecal matter. And indeed, that's the primary experience of this book, an unceasing assault against one's very person. Wyndham Lewis, in context one can see as was so often characteristic of his critiques half inveighed against and half praised 'Ulysses:'"Ulysses will remain, eternally cathartic, a monument like a record diarrhea... he collected like a cistern in his youth the last stagnant pumpings of Victorian Anglo-Irish life. This he held steadfastly intact for fifteen years or more- then when the time was right, as it were, he discharged it, in a dense mass, to his eternal glory."An artist storing up life, in all its wonderous emergences and strivings, in his bowels for a decade or two and then exploding it in sustained digestive inspiration has a materially transformative effect. With 'The Chapo Guide to Revolution' we're dealing with diametric opposition. Particularly, one imagines, the bearded morbidly obese one of the group, they have scooped up everything lethargic and mercilessly boorish, pulsatingly insignificant, branded into the flesh the mark of hedonic automaton, have greedily ingested a thousand vague resentments and didn't even have the decency to restrict their monstruous bowel movement to the porta potty. Desperate to further cash in on the cultural hunger for ever more boistrous, empty demand making and grievance mongering, they put it in book form.Marvel with the Chapo gang as your guide as they take you through history in an unforgettable tour. You'll learn: that because America had regional geopolitical interests, it's most unfair that the Khmer Rouge ended up in the 'Black Book of Communism.' Of course, were they time travelers the gang undoubtedly would have been right alongside Chomsky as he astral projected himself to the rice fields and returned declaring that all the troublesome little talk of genocide was bourgeois propaganda. It turned out there were just too many skulls to sweep under the rug and so the gang do the next best thing: if they can just spray enough liquid dung over those glimmering white skulls set against the green and brown forest, the hope is they'll be camouflaged. "But wurt about 'Amuricar?" Like a magic wand which absolves leftist ideological import of any responsibility.And there you have the template for the tour: a clumsy romp of such hyper-manichean stupidity as to be breathtaking: incredulity that there actually existed compromisers leading up to and after the Civil War- the sentiment goes that every man, woman, and child should have been unswerving in their eagerness to ensure as immediately much bloodshed as possible, if only, of course, because the cause was so righteous. And hey, all those collectivization resisting kulaks and eastern european nationalists who resisted the iron curtain, heh heh, they got what was coming to them for not being on "the right side of history." Despite a laughable little bone toss to a "global order built on egalitarianism...that rejects violence and militarism in toto" our lovable gang of, effectively, social democrats, is as bloodthirsty as any vampirical neocon.Not that I myself mind, necessarily. To be honest if this is representative, this drum poundingly tawdry book, of the future of "revolt," and here I'll interject again with Wyndham Lewis who captured its spirit preemptively and for all time better than anyone:"Everything which can be called radical or rebel, or which palpably can receive that label, and reach its destination, excites him, in rather the same way that 'scarlet sin' and suggestions of Sodom or Lesbos, or worse, thrill the sex-snob, schoolboy, curate or spinster of stage tradition- the latter the authentic affinity of the revolutionary simpleton."Yes, if this is the future, dear God, can we skip all of these mind destroyingly dull therapy sessions, the lazy squealing, the barrage of wine chugging influenced tweets, and just get to the war?

70-200mm lens at 200mm, ISO 125, 1/3 sec. at f/10I would describe myself as a budding enthusiast. I've had a Canon Rebel T1i for about four years, but have never really gotten beyond full auto, and sometimes struggled even with that, particularly at night. I was looking for a book to explain three basic things:1. Camera bodies (dSLRs vs. mirrorless Micro Four Thirds, crop vs. full frame, etc.)2. Lenses (focal length, zoom power, and aperture, plus the impact of crop factor)3. Technical basics (aperture, ISO, and shutter speed; what PPI and DPI really mean in practical terms; the difference between JPEG and Raw; what Landscape and Portrait and other preset modes on your camera are actually doing).All of these questions were basically answered in the first few chapters and ~100 pages of the book, and in a pretty easy read. After reading those first few chapters, I found myself able to fairly competently browse photography website and magazines without being completely lost. I can tell you what f/2.8 is (the aperture), what 1/500 sec. refers to (shutter speed), and what a photographer means by ISO 100 and 70-200mm at 200mm.Much of the middle of the book (chapters 4-7) deal with the basics of photography and composition, and is probably not any better or worse than other entry level books on photography. The remainder of the book deals with fairly basic (for dummies) material on downloading and printing pictures (chapters 8 and 9), and stuff like creating desktop wallpaper and slide shows (chapter 10).Overall, I think the book is a pretty good value for $15. Personally, I've shied away from the "For Dummies" line in the past, as I've found that there are better books for many of the subjects that I have been interested in. But if you're like me and are at a level where you're even considering a "For Dummies" book -- and if you're reading this review, I suspect you are -- then this book should do the trick, and my guess is that Digital Photography For Dummies is probably exactly the book you are looking for.

Great book. Simple easy to read and understand. I bought a canon rebel last year. I have kept it on auto since day one because I was intimidated by my first dslr camera.Its time to move forward and see what I can learn!!!

Most of the first half of the book deals with selection of a digital point-and-shoot or DSLR, an area that I haven't seen addressed elsewhere other than in comparison tests in popular magazines. The treatment in the book is easily accessible by beginners, unlike much of the meat of the comparison articles which are performance parameter comparisons.The second half of the book is a tutorial on effective use of a digital point-and-shoot or DSLR right out of the box. I bought this book as a gift for a very intelligent fellow who has had some difficulty in effective use of a great DSLR, and this part of the book could have been written for him and his family. The book ends with a chapter that is action-packed with excellent tips on using the camera, getting the pictures out of it, sending them by e-mail or putting them on a blog or whatever, and printing them through web services, at CVS or whatever, or at home. Thus the all-important step of how to get great prints from a great camera is the ending of the book.For those who shoot for Facebook or other blogs or to display their cameras in e-mail or on smartphones, or even those who simply use the great miniature cameras that come with some newer smartphones, this book is an excellent tutorial and reference for getting pictures that display well on computers, tablets, and smartphones. Except for the number of pixels (you need lots more pixels for sharp prints), it's the same art and science.

This book provides a great introduction to the basic techniques of serious digital photography. This was wonderful for me as I had literally NO idea of how to operate a digital camera correctly (I was the stand-point-shoot kind of guy) and I'm training to become an Archaeologist, so I really need to know my way around Photography (also, I love animals -especially bugs- and spend lots of time chasing them down and taking pics of them). This book got me from not knowing why even my stills got blurred (I have shaky hands) to actually getting almost exactly the pictures I want every time. I say "almost" because my point-and-shoot camera is only one step above "basic", but I'm sure as soon as I get my hands on a nice SLR I'll be able to nail it because of this book.The computer chapters take you through the very basics of viewing, downloading, printing, making minor edits to your pictures and even creating screensavers on common software and platforms (for example, Windows Live Photo Gallery), which is great, because the author doesn't assume you have gargantuan pro (or semi-pro) software for photo edition. The only thing lacking, in my oppinion, is too few info on lenses (that would've made it perfect), but then again, the book is aimed for laymen, which don't necessarily own SLRs (I don't) and probably won't need to much info on lenses. Still, make no mistake: you'll have the fundamental data on lenses here and learn what (and where) to look for when you decide to take the SLR step and buy lenses.I must stress, though, that this is aimed for the very beginners. If you already know about illumination, manipulating ISO, shutter speeds, balancing colors, composing images, digitally retouching pics and stuff, you may find it too basic. Again, if you know nothing about these subjects, this book is a great place to start. If you don't even have a camera but are considering getting one, this is for you: you'll feel quite satisfied when you get the most juice from your camera no matter how simple it is.
