This book is good for those who work in flow measurement design or operation like in vendors or oil and gas plants but not too useful to those who work in design engineering companies. But still it's nice to have it.

Must hace book

It's a very good book. You can see all kind of measure equipments with different technology. The autor offers a software, it' good too.

I needed this book and I needed it in a hurry. It shipped within 24 hours and I received it in less than 24 hours after it shipped.

This review discusses the second edition of Richard Miller's book. I have not yet had the pleasure of reviewing the third edition.If you are looking for a comprehensive reference on industrial flow measurement, look no further. Miller's general text is the best I have found on the subject. His writing style is clear, and he consistenly takes the reader back to "first principles" of science in explaining how each form of flowmeter functions, and why corrections must be made from ideal to practical application.Miller's "Flow Measurement Engineering Handbook" is an outstanding reference text for anyone requiring in-depth coverage of industrial flow measurement, and I recommend it without reservation.

Highly detailed in every way. Complete equations suitable for computer programming. In fact, Rosemount and other companies refer to this handbook exclusively. The index is the best way to use this book. As handbooks go, it is easy to use and an excellent compilation of vendor information as well as original R&D information. There are a few quarks in the equations for integral orifices, but the actual errors are negligable. I got improved equations from Rosemount. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is that it takes some time to dig information from the handbook. It's all there, but, it takes time to digest it. You must have this book if you encounter instruments, particularly, flow metes, during your work. You must have this book!

A great book chock full of excellent color photos of things you've never seen pictures of before. As the photos all come from the EMI archive, the book is very UK-centric but since it's calling itself a "visual history for audiophiles" rather than "the definitive history of sound" that didn't bother me. More of a lovely coffee table book than an encyclopedia or reference text. But good info in here too.

I am a professor of Sound Engineering. This book is a wonderful pictorial history of audio technology. I recommend it to my students who would like more on the history of the developing technology.

Nice design, some good pictures, but, as others have noted, it its very Eurocentric. Not a problem if you know what you are getting.

Wonderful compendium, almost like an encyclopedia of sound technology. Beautiful and rare images provide a richly illustrated book.

Great book.

It's a wonderful premise, that audio equipment and associated ephemera have an artistic quality all their own. Alas, the book takes a rather low-rent road towards that goal and the effect is not so much as a stroll through a museum as a saunter through a good pawnbrokers. The book is British and British-Empire centric, which is not a problem per se. However, it's trying to cover "The Art Of Sound", not the "Art of British Sound" Some American pioneers, like William Snow, Avery Fisher and Macintosh, go unmentioned. One mention, with a tiny picture, is made of Paul Klipsch. Alas, the picture is not even of Klipsch but of some other man!The Brit-centric focus is evident in the radios and phonographs featured. Nearly all are British products, and all, without exception, are low-fi, average and mostly dreary, home units. Not even that British stalwart Tannoy rates a mention, nor even Quad. Apparently, this Briton Mr. Burrows has never heard of his countrymen Guy R. Fountain (Tannoy) or Peter Walker (Quad). Where are the Italian designers? Where are the fantastic and fanciful bespoke audio systems featured in glossy audio mags? Where are the Japanese?The best part of this book is the coverage of the early (pre WW II) years and dissertations about recording studios and engineers. The rest is low-brow coffee table stuff.

Faith is a significant part of the author's life, and it is absolutely part of coming to terms with her daughter's addiction. This part of Stoefen's journey won't be applicable to all readers. That said, there is still plenty worth reading here, even for those who do not share the author's beliefs. This book offers a poignant reminder that children ultimately have to make their own choices and live their own lives, and sometimes parents have to deal with the disastrous consequences.

I've read a number of memoirs on addiction and Barbara's is one of the best. Being the parent of a daughter who has struggled with substance use, I could relate to most aspects of the story and how heartbreaking it is to watch a daughter self-destruct. Barbara sheds the light on how addiction has quietly crept into every community in America and has put our children at risk. The story is well written and comes from the heart.To learn more about how addiction can affect a family, or for those families who are experiencing addiction with their children, this is a must read. The book will help you have more understanding and feel less alone. The story shares hope for recovery and will remind the reader that you are not alone.

I've just finished reading a Very Fine House, reliving the years I spent in such a house with my daughter. If you've loved and anguished over a beloved child's struggle with abuse and addiction, you've lived in such a house. This house was built with love, then rocked to its foundation and shaken so mightily it's a wonder a foundation was left on which to rebuild. This is Stoefen's gift to readers, the reality that what seems lost can be recovered. Stoefen enjoyed an unusually close relationship with her daughter Annie, who shared everything with her mother until the day she stopped sharing. The signs were subtle at first, small emotional and psychological issues that gradually transformed a beautiful child into an insecure and uncertain young woman. While many of us saw this happen to our own children at a much younger age, Annie's descent into full-blown meth addiction until she'd reached college age. Like most of us, we struggled mightily to rescue our children from the darkness we saw engulfing them -- desperate fight we are bound to lose if we think it is up to us to save them. Beaten down by the rapid disintegration of her daughter's life, Stoefen was forced to let go until Annie turned to her for help. While I'm filled with admiration for Stoefen's wonderful narrative, for the expensive treatment program she managed to obtain for Annie in lieu of jail time, and for her supportive love of Annie as she fought to pull her life back together, it's Annie who made it happen. This young woman's struggle to emerge ached through my heart and fills me with joy.

The author writes her story that portrays exactly what it is like to parent someone who has become addicted to street drugs. She tells it all and does not hold back the things that may show herself in a bad light. The story line is as much about the mother's evolution and growth during the process, and it is touching and inspirational. She shares evidence based information on addiction and recovery and I learned a great deal about these topics. Many scenes and conversation could have been taken straight from my family's experience with my daughter's addiction. It is a beautiful journal of love and personal growth that can only happen when your family is challenged by this heartless brain disease. Anyone experiencing addiction in your family, or anyone interested in personal growth through hardship, will enjoy and benefit from this book.

As a long time recovering alcoholic, mother of an addict, and a child of alcoholic parents ( how's that for winning the lottery!)I can say with much personal experience that this is a book that is realistic, helpful and hope filled.It's always good to know you are not alone.Having a child live in addition is one of the most devastatingHorrifying experiences I have had. It has beaten me down and changed me on a cellular level! Probably for the better.I love recovery. I appreciate sober living every day.My alcoholism gave me a foundation for living that was missing before I ever told a drink. Thanks to the twelve step programs.Certainly divinely inspired! In the language that touches my heart.

As I read this mother's story, I felt like she had written my words, my story. I am so grateful for her insight and that she and her daughter had the courage to share their story. They helped me understand my own daughter so much more, as well as helped me to deal with my own feelings of hopelessness and frustration and fear, not to mention the guilt I feel for losing my faith. This story has helped me to start putting one foot in front of the other and try to look forward to tomorrow rather than fear what it might bring.

This book about Annie's life through addiction and beyond is very eye opening. I lost a sister to drugs and alcohol. She lived in its grip for over 40+ years. Our family paid the price for her addiction as well. I applaud Barb and Pete for handling the sickness the way they did. I praise God for delivering Annie and Tom from despair. I love that they are using their mistakes to help others. I believe that is our calling in this life. I hope they will remain clean and sober against all odds.

I understand better what to look for and don't feel so alone in the process. I can see myself in the chapters and have to remember that I too, am human filled with errors, faulter and will cave. But I can't die in the process or I too, am in need as my own daughter. So may God give us strength and the ability to read for hope and insight when God just seems absent. This book is a great place to start.

If you plan to spend all your time in Amsterdam, then this is the book for you. Does not cover much outside of Amsterdam. Rick Steves Amsterdam & The Netherlands book is better if you plan to leave the city.

We brought 2 travel guides to Amsterdam. We iended up exclusively using Fodors. The book is well organized and full of great info. We used it everyday we were there.

I used this book a lot before we even went to Amsterdam. It has everything you need to know and included places to try.A really great travel guide!

This is a good travel companion guide to Amsterdam that is informative and compact enough to get you started as well as to carry with you on the go. The book divides Amsterdam into half a dozen of neighborhoods and cover them in their own sections so that you can quickly find the relevant information such as facts, pictures, maps, top sights and attractions, which is handy when you're actually in the particular areas. The book also spends a great deal (may be a little too much) on restaurants, lodgings, nightlife, performing arts, shopping and side trips from the city. If you're keen to explore the local culture, food, etc, you'll find a lot of helpful information as well.One thing I really like about this book is its design and layout. While it is literally loaded with tons of information, it is clean and easy enough to read. The multi-color texts and layouts are very well structured, so it is easy to find the information you need. The text is a little small for my aging eyes, but I don't find it hard to read.There are a few of (minor) shortcomings in this book. Although it has two dozens of maps scattered over the pages, they are generally small, inset type maps good for orientation but not detailed enough for actual directions on the go. There is a pullout map with better details though. Also, there is a metro network map but not much information (just less than 1/2 page worth) about it can be found in the book. Lastly, if you're more into tourist attractions than food, shopping, etc, this book may not be for you since it has more of the latter than the former (in terms of page count).The book has a good chapter on side trips from Amsterdam. These trips include the Bulb Fields, Storybook Holland, Haarlem, the Hague, Delft and Rotterdam. They are generally within hours' reach by train or car. They have their own inset map, attractions, eating and sleeping suggestions, etc.All in all, this is a compact, starter guide that has something for everyone. That said, I would recommend getting a comprehensive travel book or other resources to do your research and planning first. This compact guide is great for general information and as a reference on the go.

This is a really good guide for planning and dreaming at home. If you are a return visitor or first-time, the "Amsterdam Today" section gives a general overview of atmosphere & what's new in Amsterdam. I also like the “Rome Planner” which gives help on when to go, etc. & then there is information on the top attractions, festivals, itineraries, etc.I like how the "What's Where" pages that show the all the top sights (& more) with Amsterdam-specific advice on canals, museums, vices (i.e. legal pot), bicycling, itineraries &traveling with kids. The sections on the top attractions are especially good & include color photos with descriptions, etc.. The usual information on where to sleep, eat and shop is good.The book also covers “Best of the Netherlands” which includes: tulip fields, Haarlem, The Hague, Delft & Rotterdam.The maps are good for planning. There is a pull-out Amsterdam map that is very useful while travelling and a Metro/Rail map. This is a lovely book & well-organized with good information. It is small enough to take with you.

I have no immediate plans to go to Amsterdam but I collect travel guides to learn more about the areas of the world that I'd like to travel to or have an interest in. This guide was really well done and had the right balance of information, pictures, history, and culture. It is one that I would suggest getting when traveling to the area or if someone just wanted to learn more about Amsterdam like I did.

Another nice travel guide from Fodor's. Concise, info packed, and was very useful when I made it out to Amsterdam.

I was a first time visitor to Amsterdam in 2017 and I fell in love with the place & vowed to return as soon as possible. So, I devoured this new Fodor's guide to Amsterdam and it triggered wonderful memories and whetted my desire to tour Amsterdam again. The guide does a great job with the venues I came to know, highlights many I could not get to, and contains a lot of recommended sights I had not previously known about. The volume is slim (not skimpy in info, just not as large and bulky as many travel guides), so, if like me, you like to tote the actual paper book with you when you travel, this one won't weigh you down as much as the typical version. Also, the guide has excellent information on some recommended place outside Amsterdam, all of which can be seen on day trips. Again, some of those I got to see, but others I hadn't even considered, Haarlem for example. Will be sure to include an excursion to Haarlem in the future, based upon the info in this guide. Consult this book before you go and carry it with you in Amsterdam, and your experience will be enhanced immensely. Highly recommend.

This is a good summary of 12c SQL, but I just took the test and this study guide will only get you so far. I also bought practice test software and that helped more than this guide did as far as preparing for the test. But since the Oracle test has very little to do with reality, the test software is not useful for anything else. This guide will serve you in you job if you work with Oracle databases so it has value.

Good book, couple it with video training and actual practice for best learning.

It helped me greatly in the preparation. I wish there are bit more examples about new 12c features, would recommend the book anyway to somebody who has SQL and Oracle database experience and taking this exam.

But I have not taken the exam so I can't say the info in this book provides an answer to most of the test questions. My instructor also referred me to to a website that provides 30 day online access f/69.99 for test prep. [...]

Not even close to covering all of the material on the exam. Useless.

I enjoy Science Fiction, but I am not generally a fan of Time Travel themes. They tend to get too convoluted for my taste. That being said, I must admit that this book kept my interest and insisted that I read it straight through. Yes, it was overly detailed and a little bogged down in the middle. But it was long enough that the World building for the series was properly established and the reader could become familiar with the characters, and yes--dare I say it--attached to them as well.I've not read any of this author's previous books, so I selected this as my Kindle First selection based solely on the fact that it was a genre that I like. I quickly discovered that the author is British and that the language, violence, and sexual themes made it an adult read. Even with the British slang, words, and locale, it soon grabbed my interest and I was hooked into the story. The writing is solid. I wish that the explanation of the time travel itself was more thorough, but then again I'm not a science or tech expert, so that didn't impact my enjoyment that much.The ending leaves off in a decent place to set up the next book, and makes the reader crave more. Usually I hate any sort of a cliffhanger, but this one, for some reason, didn't feel like the usual cliff hanger; it didn't make me angry, it just left me wanting to continue the story. Which is another indication of a good book. I will download the next installment without hesitation.

I do agree with some of the critics that I have read about this book, but overall I found the story engaging and certainly worth reading.Some of the good/badGOOD: This is a sci-fi book, but it’s not too focused on the sci-fi aspects that it overwhelming. Contrast it to “The Martian” by Andy Weir. IN some points of the book, “The Martian” went so deep into the science aspects of the activities that it seemed that the author forgot that we aren’t all math experts. Still a great book (smile). The Extracted doesn’t spend a lot of time explaining how the time machine works or ramifications of time travel – they have invented a time machine and yes, there are ramifications of time travel (most already explained to us all via Star Trek).BAD: Yes, the novel could use additional editing. There is a section where it takes Ben an awfully long (long) time to get with the program. I noticed that many reviewers brought this up as an issue. While I agree with more editing, I’d also point out that it’s no longer commonplace to have a large publisher who signs a huge contract with authors and each novel undergoes 2-3 rounds of review and editing before publishing and printing thousands of copies of books for the bookstores.GOOD/BAD: This novel is really (really) set up as a trilogy. The first novel sets up the overall plot about why we needed the main characters, but then spends no time on planning, strategy or talking about what they plan to do to “fix” the world. I assume that this will be tackled in book 2 or 3 of the trilogy. So those looking for plot advancement on these specific lines will be disappointedBAD: The narration seems to jump from first person to third person. I’m not author. I thought you couldn’t do that but this is a book about time travel so…. For me, it didn’t harm the narration in anyway.GOOD: There is a good amount of character development. While some reviewers mentioned that the characters were still thin, I really didn’t find it that way at all.GOOD/BAD: The characters are all UK-English (smile). Have some tea with that one.All in all, I really enjoyed the novel and expect many new readers will as well. I’m looking forward to the second novel in the trilogy to find out how Harry, Ben and Safa try to save the world.

This is a quick read for those that are in to science fiction. I was pretty enthralled in the beginning as we were introduced to characters and the overall theme of the book. After about half way it does take a significant downward turn. For a book of this genre, I should be riveted and there were times that I was skimming about 3/4 a ways in.The author does a great job with the fight scenes and action sequences. The writing feels cinematic and I found myself casting my way through the whole beginning.The author struggles with dialogue and the SCIENCE part of fiction. To elaborate:The dialogue between two of the main characters is abysmal. Why are there so many "err, umm, etc." Can you please trust the reader to interpret the pace of the conversation? You made your very smart lead sound like a moron. I also hated the treatment of the female lead with her dialogue. Why did she go from an intelligent, articulate, trained officer pre-extraction to a dumb, silly, "like, totally" incapable of complete sentences (albeit fit) person?!? Super disappointing.The science part...well...the author refers a lot to the thing, the doohickey, the thingamabob...not in these exact words...but yeah.I'd forgive the lack the of research if the dialogue and pacing were better. All in all...it's just OK.

This is a good half a book about a time machine.My biggest problem with this book is that it is only half the book. Just like several others now a days - it is clear that one book was written and then it was split into smaller parts to sell more product at a lower cost. I don't like this when it is done with anything from pizza to ice-cream, but when it comes to books, you better make each end when the book is done - this fails at this miserably.Now let's set that aside and look at the book. It is a bit disjointed at times - but I think it may be to get into the caritors heads when we meet them (primarily when they are "Extracted"). When I was reading this part I found it a bit confusing, but I can forgive that. The story is a good one, well written over all and it would get five stars if it was one book combined with the second one.Please note - the second book makes this one all worth while - it puts a bow on the story. The second book made the reader look foreword to the third in the trilogy. That is the way it should be.
