The author, a former political speech writer for a major Washington persona and political appointee has an undergraduate degree centering on political science and history. He is certainly an able writer, an excellent wordsmith with a smooth easy to follow style. The book comes with a long set of notes and an extensive bibliography. In terms of sheer numbers the notes and sources fill 88 pages. But, too many of these notes and too much of the bibliography is from less than substantial sources, several of which are more notable for revisionist views of history than for serious academic chops. But, perhaps more significant are the omissions. Not found in the works cited are John Gittings landmark study, “The Role of the Chinese Army,” which speaks to the development, leadership, training and discipline of the People’s Liberation Army or James Sheridan’s “China in Disintegration.” Similarly two of the foremost biographers of Mao: Jerome Chen and Frederic Wakeman are missing from the bibliography. That by itself is not necessarily a problem or even a surprise since Kurtz-Phelan has limited experience in East Asia.More concerning; however, is the way, the author takes bits and pieces from the works he cites without providing full context. Thus when he speaks to the murder of Chinese communist officials and sympathizers in Shanghai by the KMT and thugs recruited for the slaughter he fails to mention that Mao’s wife, Yáng Kāihuì, (probably the only woman Mao ever really loved) was executed by a KMT warlord He Jian. Mao later told an American that he mourned Yáng Kāihuì for the rest of his life. That certainly would have colored Mao’s relationship with Chiang Kai-shek and the KMT. It is this sort of detail and its impact that Kurtz-Phelan misses. There are other opportunities for analysis that the author allows to pass. For example, early on he recounts an incident with Winston Churchill. As Kurtz-Phelan recounts Marshall says to Churchill “Not one American soldier is going to die on that ————- beach.” (A reference to the upcoming invasion of Normandy.) The author does not understand why Marshall said that. Marshall said it because of the needless death he saw in the Meuse Argonne, the deadliest battle in American history which saw 26,277 American doughboys killed and another 95,786 wounded. My dad’s oldest brother was killed in the Meuse Argonne which can probably best be described as a morass. Additionally, the fighting that Marshall took part in in the American War in the Philippines in the early 1900s was brutal with atrocities on both sides. Finally, some of the research is a bit questionable. Colonel Dave Barrett headed the Dixie Mission from March 1942 to November 1944. Barrett was a skilled Chinese linguist with long experience in China. Barrett was despised by Ambassador Hurley (Hurley was at best, ill suited for diplomacy) and replaced by Col Ivan Yeaton who had nowhere near the background Barrett had, but deferred to Hurley. Had Kurtz-Phelan understood this his remarks about the Dixie mission would have been less tentative.Another example of Kurtz-Phelan playing a bit circumspectly occurs when he states “... when Yenan requested Soviet Weapons, Moscow instead sent tens of thousands of guns, airplanes, and tanks, along with advisors and pilots ... “ That is well and good, but the Soviets withdrew all those personnel in 1940. What impact that had on Marshall’s mission is questionable. The way the author writes about Soviet support it would be all too easy to assume the Soviets where still supporting Chiang Kai-shek when Marshall arrived in China. Making this assumption abets the revisionist history Kurtz-Phelan puts forward. On a positive note, the book made me consult several books I have on hand and it lead me to review some of the work I did in Asian Studies. That, for me, was a good exercise.

This is an excellent book. Kurtz-Phelan has done a wonderful job researching a part of history that has received very little attention. The book is extremely well-written. I was so enthralled with the book, that I literally missed my subway stop while reading it, a quality reserved only for about .5% of the books I have ever read. I particularly liked Kurtz-Phelan’s use of primary sources to give the perspective of the different players, including—intriguingly—Chiang Kai-Shek’s dairies. The reader comes away understanding the challenges of foreign intervention, the importance of on-the-ground knowledge of a situation, and Marshall’s high personal standards. During a period of many global challenges, Kurtz-Phelan has managed to stay focused on the history itself, letting the reader make his own conclusions about how to apply this to today. Nevertheless, the book provides excellent background to understanding modern China and how the country has arrived to where it is today. The book would be a welcome gift to the professional historian as well as anyone who enjoys reading about the world today and a lot in between.

Highly readable and enlightening examination of a brief yet critical chapter in recent world history and our foreign policy. It's message, among others, of the tension between complexity and hard objective analysis based on facts on the one hand, and our democracy's sometime infatuation with myths and simplicity on the other, hold important lessons for today. Marshall held a keen understanding of when and how to act and when not to; the latter often being far more difficult. Let us also not forget that he and our leadership at the time also well understood the fundamental responsibility the United States has, even if imperfectly exercised at times and with attendant limitations, in supporting the world's democracies.

Daniel Kurtz-Phelan really laid out the China Mission well. George Marshall was a national hero and quickly progressing on the road to mythological national figure that many of us recognize today for his leadership of the army during World War II. China following the war was threatening to spiral out of control because of a brutal civil war between the Communists led by Mao and the Nationalists by Chiang Kai-shek. So the reader gets this dynamic of The Great Conquering Hero vs. The Conflict No One Could Tame within the first few chapters, which really hooks the reader.Given the sheer mistrust, disdain, and outright hatred that Mao and Chiang Ki-shek had for each other, I would suggest that George Marshall is the only figure who had a prayer of bringing anything positive out of this mess. While some authors try to paint one side or the other with virtue, both sides come out more than a little barbaric in Kurtz-Phelan’s telling. Surprisingly, Marshall actually does almost make something positive happen. But circumstances brought Marshall back stateside and a succession of weaker personalities, lacking in Marshall’s respect and prestige entered. They eventually created a China that not even the mythical George Marshall could save. It was very moving and somewhat sad to see defeat snatched from the jaws of potential victory and even our great heroes have their limits.

I really, really, really like this book! I found it at the public library and thought it would be another lame, "make lists, set goals and priorities" book but boy was I wrong! Rather than letting it sit for a week, like I normally do, I read it straight thru in two evenings. I'm a recovering "world class procrastinator" so I was ready to be disappointed, as I have been with so many other books on this subject, but it wasn't to be! Bottom line: I like the fact that he has science to back up his suggestions and some clear, step-by-step ways to implement them. I bought the book so I could highlight the heck out of it (libraries tend to frown on that practice. Go figure?) and have started using the ideas that fit my pattern of "addiction" - and they are working! Maybe its just me, maybe its the book or a combination, but I'm getting results that other books haven't provided. Don't skip the evaluation quizzes in the first chapter and do the full online version as well - you may not like the results! If you really suffer from procrastination this might be a book for you. Don't procrastinate! Buy it now and read it!

I consume productivity books. Most give a nugget of wisdom at best. But this book is the holy grail of figuring out why you aren't getting "it" done. Best part is you get evidence-based solutions with well summized action plans at the end of each section. This is my favorite book I've read this year!

This was a highly insightful and encouraging read. I didn't think I would ever overcome my chronic procrastination. Piers does a wonderful job in describing why we procrastinate and provides useful techniques to stop our procrastination in its tracks, or help us procrastinate more effectively. Thanks to The John Batchelor Show for interviewing Piers on this great piece of work. Definitely a game changer for me.

Not a good how to book. Explained the history and the why of procrastination, but slim on specific tools and techniques.

Much great info, helped me alot. I now attack projects rather then put them on a to do list.

It is such a fascinating book, that after reading it all, I never thought I could read so fast in such a short period of time. Is perhaps one of the best books I've read after "Emotional Intelligence of Daniel Goleman", it's so nice to know that there are still writers among us of that caliper, and sincerity.

Like: Scientifically based. Makes sense. Offers sound advice. Well written.Dislike: I needed it years ago.Recommend it to everyone.

A great book for those who wish to explore procrastination. This is not exactly an easy read, but is worth the effort. I would place this in my top 5 books on procrastination.

From the Inside Flap

A fascinating and scholarly work, this book is based on ten years of research and intense study. It turns the spotlight on traditional Christian interpretation of Israel's position in the biblical prophecies through textual and historical accuracy; it shows how radical Islam fits the description of the End-Times threat.

Why I Left Jihad is a powerful examination of Islam from several, multi-faceted angles. Walid Shoebat is a Palestinian-American and former Muslim who was raised in the West Bank and later emigrated to the US. Why I Left Jihad is one of several books he has written to expose the globalist Islamic agenda and the tactical strategies of terrorism. Most of his books cover the same ground and much of the prophetic analysis of Islam and the end-times contained in this book came right from his previous book, God's War on Terror: Islam, Prophecy and the Bible, which he co-wrote with Joel Richardson. The most important difference between the two is how Shoebat personalizes Why I Left Jihad. The books opens with a brief biography and his personal testimony of discovering Jesus Christ in the Bible and subsequently converting to Christianity (this book has a definite evangelical thrust and tone but Walid Shoebat is a Roman Catholic). There has been some debate about the details of his past life in Palestine. Shoebat claims to have been recruited into terrorism when, as a teenager, he took part in an attempt to throw a bomb into an Israeli bank. He chickened out instead and the bomb went off harmlessly on the roof of the bank. While this story is disputed by researchers who claim it never took place, I found the story to be based on a common technique of recruitment in which a fairly harmless device is used to test the mettle of a potential recruit. Shoebat failed and the device in question never drew enough attention to warrant an investigation. But it did disqualify Shoebat from further or deeper recruitment into a terror cell (even Shoebat may not have understood the implications of the incident). Shoebat studied the Bible in an attempt to influence his American wife to convert to Islam. Instead he discovered the Truth about Jesus Christ. After his conversion he went on to a more in-depth study of Islamic and Middle East history, antisemitism, Christianity and Bible prophecy. Why I Left Jihad is a compilation of all he discovered on his spiritual journey, a journey all modern Christians, Jews, Muslims and secularists are challenged to take between the pages of this powerful and well-researched book. Certainly his prophetic views will bother many mainstream evangelicals whose depth of prophetic and historical knowledge don't go much further than Tim LaHaye's Left Behind series or those 1970-80s Hal Lindsay best-sellers that were all based on a 1950s "Dallas Theological Seminary" prophetic model. Islam has been seriously underestimated by the modern Church. Shoebat brings up many scriptures overlooked by mainstream prophecy writers. Yet Shoebat himself sometimes neglects verses to make his point (Revelation 18 and most of the scriptures pertaining to the Rapture). Yet on the balance, he raises some important and often overlooked points that need to be dragged out and examined if we want to comprehend the full counsel of the word of God -- especially given the challenges of Islam in the 21st Century. This is an important book. So get it and read it. It is highly recommended.

Very interesting point of view. Many trash the author because he wasn't terrorist "enough"... really? How much terrorist do you need to be to have an inside view? I guess if you are always looking to dismiss the Islam faith's relationship to terrorism then terrorist "enough" is a worthy question that simply can't be answered, so you can never, therefore, question Islam's relationship to terror. Convenient.

It's interesting that some give credence to his family's rejection of Walid Shoebat as evidence for his dishonesty. In my estimation this is just their pathetic last defense against his critical examination of Islam. Anyone who is familiar with the dynamics of Islam knows that family pressure is a life/death force keeping some Muslims as putative adherents rather than allowing them to pursue their own beliefs.Shoebat's comparison of the Koran, the New Testament and the Torah is accurate. His decision to follow his intellectual findings rather than his family's heritage bespeaks a rare form of intellectual honesty and courage. As a young man in Bethleham, Shoebat was raised to believe "it was a righteous thing to grow up and kill Jews." His mother was an American and never dared express her own beliefs, since Walid's family suspected she was not a faithful Muslim. At times he grew up hating his own mother and asking his father to divorce her. On the other hand, she did take him to visit museums and the original scroll of Isaiah (without comment), which ignited a lifelong interest in archeology. He was later to rescue her in 1995 and return her to the United States after being virtually imprisoned by her family for 35 years. He became a member of the PLO and was eventually jailed in Jerusalem's Muscovite Prison for his violent activities. On release he returned to his terrorist activities, bombing an Israeli bank in his home town.He came to the United States and enrolled at Loop College in Chicago where he continued his political activities raising money and recruiting volunteers to fight in the Middle East.Shoebat gradually withdrew from his activism and married. He started to convert his wife to Islam but she asked, "Show me in the Bible the bad things the Jews did." He started to read the Bible and history (rather than the fables he had been taught in Bethlehem). The result was his discovery that the Bible was a much more honest portrayal of history than the Koran and Muhammad. Mr. Shoebat had the great courage to follow his discovery into a new world where hate was not the defining emotion. He finally realized, "Maria, I think I was wrong to try to convert you to Islam."In the process Mr. Shoebat became a serious biblical scholar. More than half of this book is devoted to his interpretations of its many prophetic passages. I am not qualified to evaluate this portion of the book, but the early chapters alone make it well worth buying. For those with a more secular bent, I strongly recommend his second book, "Why We Want to Kill You."

Learn and understand what motivates Jihad, suicide bombers, hate toward Jews; learn what the Koran (Muslim Bible) contains and why it is taught, memorized, and verbally repeated in schools, mosques (church), homes, public squares, military training… from cradle to grave; learn what Shiriah law is and how it benefits/strengthens Muslim men and destroys/weakens Muslim women. Your eyes will be open to why this man left Jihad when he began reading, studying and comparing the God of the Bible vs. the man of the Koran. Awesome read; I couldn't put it down.

This book has parts that are difficult to follow, but it really helps to understand Islam. Allah is NOT the God of Scripture and he WILL be defeated once and for all very soon! The Bible is clear how to detect a false prophet, but the god of this age has deceived many through many false prophets. We are to test the spirits.

I found this book to be fascinating and I loved this book as it taught me about Islam and why the extremists hate people outside of their religion. Hatred still doesn't make sense to me as Jesus and God teaches us to love all peoples. I believe this author is doing a great work to educate the world about why the future events told about in the Bible are going to happen so that we will be aware, but still know that God is our protection from all evil.

9781101967201|excerptLiptan / THE FIBROMANUALChapter 1Figuring Out Fibromyalgia for MyselfAt the end of my first year of medical school, I was doing crunches at the gym when I felt a muscle in the front of my neck rip, causing intense pain. I had injured muscles before, and I figured it would heal quickly. But as days turned to weeks, it didn’t. My neck burned constantly and felt like it could no longer hold up the weight of my head. The only relief I got was when I wrapped a heating pad around it. A chiropractor found mild abnormalities in my cervical spine and made some adjustments. I started getting regular chiropractic treatments, because they were all I could think to do, and they helped a little. That summer, I was achy and tired all the time. I took a part-time babysitting job, and working for just a few hours left me exhausted for days. I woke up in the morning with a sore neck and back, which hurt all day. I frequently felt stiff, weak, and lightheaded. It was as if all the energy of my body and mind had been sucked out. I went to see my primary care doctor, who prescribed a muscle relaxant, which did not help. The pain progressed to my upper back—an ache between my shoulder blades that would not go away. My spine hurt, my skin hurt, everything hurt. I was sleeping poorly, tossing and turning, and I woke every morning feeling more tired than before I went to bed. I felt too weak to even lift my arms to wash my hair in the shower. One day my hips started aching so much that I couldn’t do anything but lie in bed and cry. I was sure there was something really wrong with me, so I went again to my doctor. She drew blood and sent me to a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist ordered X-rays of my neck and hips and assured me they were completely normal.“So why do I hurt all the time?” I asked.“I don’t know, but you don’t have arthritis,” he responded.I returned to my doctor to find that my labs were all normal. My doctors had no answers for me and nothing to offer.A DiagnosisI started my second year of medical school as a total wreck. And then a bit of grace fell my way. My chiropractor sold her practice. I tearfully told my entire story to the chiropractor who took it over, and he suggested that I might have fibromyalgia—the first time anyone had even mentioned it to me. He checked my tender points, and registered “exquisite” tenderness in at least twelve of them, confirming the diagnosis. He recommended that I pick up what he called “the bible of fibromyalgia,” Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome: A Survival Manual, by Devin Starlanyl and Mary Ellen Copeland. I spent weeks reading and rereading it, trying to convince myself that I did not have the condition, but unable to avoid the fact that it described me perfectly. “Chronic” was such an awful word. And fibromyalgia had such a stigma among doctors—even among my fellow medical students—that I couldn’t quite believe I had it.I began doing research in my medical textbooks, on the Internet, and in bookstores. I quickly became discouraged. Western medicine had little to offer beyond antidepressants and exercise. I was already on antidepressants, and exercise made me feel worse. So I ventured into the confusing world of alternative medicine, perusing countless theories and treatments online, many of which conflicted directly with what I was learning in school. I was overwhelmed by the different ideas I encountered about the causes of fibromyalgia and how to treat it.Was it yeast overgrowth? Low thyroid hormone production? Did I need to cleanse my body of toxins? Do a raw-juice fast? Use guaifenesin to reduce calcium phosphate deposits in the muscles? Was I deficient in some vitamin that I needed in megadoses? Did I need a macrobiotic diet? Raw foods? Alkaline foods?Compounding my frustration was the fact that I was so fatigued I didn’t have the energy to contemplate major lifestyle or dietary changes. Acupuncture didn’t help, and massage made me feel more achy and tired. The latter half of my second year of medical school was basically a very expensive correspondence course. I rarely felt well enough to make it to class, and survived by getting lecture notes from friends, studying at home, and showing up only for the occasional required seminar and exams.I finally accepted that I had fibromyalgia. I felt hopeless and helpless. I told myself that it wasn’t fatal—it wasn’t cancer—but it still felt like a death sentence. It became clear that there was no way I could make it through the rigors of the third year of medical school, with its eighty-hour workweeks and high levels of physical and emotional stress. I took a leave of absence.Stumbling into HelpDuring my yearlong leave I read every book I could get my hands on about fibromyalgia and tried every treatment I could. I knew exercise was supposed to help, so I kept trying new regimens, only to stop after injuring myself. After diligently following the guaifenesin protocol described in What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia: The Revolutionary Treatment That Can Reverse the Disease, by R. Paul St. Amand and Claudi Craig Marek, I was devastated when I got no benefit from it. I took thousands of dollars’ worth of useless supplements. I tried IV therapies with a naturopath, and saw a top holistic MD in Boston. I did colonic hydrotherapy and fasted and did detoxifying diets. I tried every type of massage I could find, but each session seemed to make my pain worse. I journaled and saw a therapist and tried to meditate. None of it helped, and midway through the year I was feeling hopeless and preparing to drop out of school completely. Then I read Claire Musickant’s Fibromyalgia: My Journey to Wellness. Musickant describes her dramatic reduction in symptoms after testing for food sensitivities and eliminating the offenders. I knew it was something I needed to do; it felt right. I had a rare rush of hope and excitement as I called the lab to find a practitioner in my area, a naturopath. She told me the test was expensive. I hesitated and asked her if she had found that it helped people with fibromyalgia. “Oh, yes,” she said, “and it helped me. I had fibromyalgia and am now ninety percent better.” She had fibromyalgia—past tense. These were possibly the most beautiful words I had ever heard. She was the first person I had talked to who had even suggested that fibromyalgia was something one could recover from.I did the blood test and started to avoid the recommended foods and chemicals. After about two weeks, I realized that the all-over body ache I had grown so accustomed to was gone. Now it only hurt when someone actually pressed on my muscles. It didn’t feel as if I constantly had the flu. I had the energy to grocery shop, to cook, to exercise. I was thrilled. But my sleep was still light and restless and I woke up exhausted every morning. My neck and arm pain flared up easily with exertion or repeated motion.A massage therapist recommended I try a manual therapy technique, the John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach, which involves slow, prolonged stretching that releases restrictions in the fascia, the connective tissue around the muscle (see chapter 12 for further details). After several sessions I experienced dramatic pain reduction in my arms and neck. With ongoing myofascial release therapy, I felt well enough to return to medical school, but I remained fatigued all the time. Things really fell apart during a month of night shifts in the hospital. I couldn’t sleep during the day and developed severe insomnia. I dragged myself once again to my primary doctor, who prescribed a sleep medication.Suddenly everything shifted. I was getting deeper sleep and feeling more rested when I woke up. The combination of improving sleep quality with medication, avoiding inflammation-producing foods, and myofascial release treatments got me through the grueling remainder of medical school and residency training. And it forms the core of my treatment approach to this day. Over the years I fine-tuned my technique, learning other ways to improve deep sleep, treat the fascia, and warm up so that exercise helps and doesn’t hurt.As I continued my medical training, I was able to better assess the thousands of studies and articles written about fibromyalgia. I began to put together why certain treatments had helped me so much, while others did nothing at all. Based on my own relief with myofascial release I was convinced that the fascia was the source of fibromyalgia pain, and my research has focused on it ever since. At Oregon Health and Science University I conducted a study that found myofascial release therapy was more helpful than standard massage for fibromyalgia symptoms (Liptan 2013). I’ve also published articles on exercise and self-management strategies (Jones 2012; Liptan 2010; Jones 2009). In 2011 I founded the first private practice in the United States dedicated exclusively to fibromyalgia, the Frida Center for Fibromyalgia, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. For years after my diagnosis I felt bitter toward all the doctors who had not been able to help me. It was so frustrating that again and again I had to find my own way, wasting money on ineffective treatments because I had no guidance. My resentment faded, though, as I continued my medical training and practice and realized that physicians in this country are working within an untenable system. Our current medical framework is just not set up well to deal with chronic and complex illnesses like fibromyalgia. And while most doctors do really try to help their fibromyalgia patients, they simply lack the expertise or tools to do it.I told no one about my diagnosis, even my closest friends. I only revealed it during my final presentation to colleagues and teachers on the last day of my residency. I felt as if I was “coming out” and revealing a whole secret life. I wanted to show my fellow doctors it is a real disease that can happen to anyone. Since then, I have focused a large part of my career on educating other health care professionals about this invisible illness. I am done feeling ashamed. My hypervigilant nervous system keeps me attuned to subtle changes in other people’s emotional states and in my environment. It has helped me to become a better doctor. And my intimate experiences with pain and suffering have made me a better human being.

Wonderful, helpful! I have been researching for years about fibro and had put together my own theory of its etiology. Amazing to see the author has come to the same conclusion, although she explains it more thoroughly than I had yet become able to. Her recommendations are well worth doing. The ones I hadn't been doing have become part of my own care plan.

I was hesitant about this book, as I already have tons of info about FM floating around my head (so I didn't feel I needed an introduction to the topic). But not only is the Fibro Manual comprehensive and current, it provides a very trustworthy roadmap for all aspects of management (pain, sleep, exercise, energy, doctors, etc). I realized while reading it that my approach has been pretty scattershot for the last several years -- and that I was often slowing down my own progress because I didn't realize ways in which my experimentation was undermining my overall efforts. Liptan does a wonderful job of explaining how everything connects (as best we now know), so that we can effectively prioritize and organize our management strategies. Her section on sleep aids and supplements (with advice on how to combine them safely and effectively) is alone worth the price of the book. I've been following the manual pretty religiously for a couple of months now. Of course I'm not "cured," but I feel the most stable I've felt in years, not desperately trying new things every day. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best books available on treating fibromyalgia. A must read for every fibromyalgia patient and treatment provider. This book lives by my desk because I look things up in it constantly. It's required reading for my Fibromyalgia Coach training class. There are a few things in particular I love about this book:First, Dr. Liptan includes all of the little things that have made the biggest difference in my fibro healing. These are all things that took me years to discover on my own -- and you'll have them all right here!Second, there is a section at the end of each chapter that outlines the things you can do for yourself, as well as the things your doctor needs to help you with. This makes it a very effective book for you to use on your own.Third, there is a bullet point guide at the back of the book specifically for your doctor. It includes the research and studies that support her treatment recommendations. This means that our busy doctors can read the "cliff notes" version to know how to treat you. Many people have asked me how this differs from her first book, Figuring Out Fibromyalgia. I'm also often asked if they should buy The FibroManual if they've already read the first one. If you're wondering the same thing, here's your answer:Figuring Out Fibromyalgia is limited to what we knew about fibromyalgia at the time it was published (January 2011). After six years, we know a lot more. Studies have been done and drugs approved (or not approved!) that have changed our treatment strategies. While Figuring Out Fibromyalgia includes more of Dr. Liptan's personal fibromyalgia journey, The FibroManual was written with your doctor in mind. As I mentioned above, Dr. Liptan includes bullet points at the end of every chapter and a "cliff notes" section in the back for your doctor with all the research links and information he or she needs to treat your effectively.I highly recommending getting a copy of The FibroManual. It truly is a complete fibromyalgia treatment guide that is written for both you and your doctor.

I purchased this book for my wife "m". She initially borrowed it from our local library and after a few hours of reading this book she told me that she needed to own this book. She has been suffering from fibromyalgia and myofascial for years and did not know it until she saw a rheumatologist in 2017. Of course with most doctors they prescribe a muscle relaxant and/or anti-inflammatory pills and other pills to help with symptoms. This book has helped my wife so much because it addresses the symptoms and what you CAN do to feel better. She still sees a useless rheumatologist, but this book has given her much more insight on what is going on and why, than any of the 11 doctors that she saw in 2017. She would have fibro flare ups almost daily and the rx pills were not helping. Taking matters in her own hands and googling she stumbled across a blog that mentioned this book and borrowed it from the library because she got tired of buying fibro books only to be disappointed about the info that the books provided. She is at the gut repair stage and is feeling better already and its only been about 4 weeks. She has even purchased a jumpsport rebounder to exercise on. Up until now she was fatigued and in pain, so exercise was not on her agenda. Yes, she still has pain but its improving. This book is a manual and one thing you must do is get it. Then read and re-read it. Take notes from the book as you read it then google and research what you read. THANK YOU Dr. Ginerva Liptan for helping us understand what is going on and why. One more thing once you start to feel better, you need to exercise, my wife chose to get an enell sports bra because she has large breasts and use a rebounder (mini-trampoline, not the cheap kind that you find in stores) and she jumps on it daily for a few seconds, yes, I said seconds at a time until she builds up to minutes. Exercise was one thing that everyone keeps repeating. How do you exercise when you have fibro pain and tired and can't sleep??? Dr. Liptan gets it. She says you need to get deep sleep and repair your gut, and that's just the beginning. I hope the experience that my wife has had with this book will help other people as well. I'm getting my wife back. : ) Sorry for the long review, in the words of bobby womack, that's the way I feel about 'cha.

Covers math, reading and more. My kids kept asking if they could do their workbooks. There are games at the end of each week we didn’t do. But I like that there are different subjects all in the same book.

So many different activities to keep kid busy

Best thing I could've bought for my daughter. Kept her brain going all summer.

This book is good, but not my favorite summer activity book. So far, the one that follows a map in the back of the book is my grandson’s favorite. The math covered in this book is a review of Kindergarten, no introduction of material for 1st grade. There are quite a few art drawing activities and simple games, and some other interesting activities to say the least. The book does include a table of contents and an answer key. It is nicely illustrated, mostly in color.
